The adult Bald eagle was found lying in the middle of the road, unable to fly, close to Thunder Bay, Ontario. The OPP acted quickly, transporting the eagle to Thunderbird Wildlife Rescue, who did a great job stabilizing the wing. Wings of Rescue then flew this raptor to an airport close to the National Wildlife Centre. Thanks to The Owl Foundation for coordinating the rescue effort, including arranging a volunteer driver who transported the eagle to the NWC for urgent treatment.
The eagle was given a brief intake exam, stabilized and received pain medicine by our veterinary team. X-rays revealed he had been shot and had sustained a severe fracture of his humerus (the big bone in the wing). He underwent orthopedic surgery to repair the fracture and is now healing from his ordeal. It was a team effort to save this beautiful bird. Thanks to The Owl Foundation, Thunderbird Wildlife Rescue, Thunder Bay Police Service, Wings of Rescue, and the NWC team!
