This beautiful beaver was found by a member of the public, with an injury from a trap. He is getting a health check-up here. He is a big beaver at 22.2 kg (49 pounds)! He has huge webbed feet, making him a powerful swimmer. Did you know adult beavers’ teeth are orange? And they can stay submerged underwater for up to eight minutes! Beavers help our ecosystem – they engineer the environment that other species rely on, and water is better absorbed by the land where there is a beaver pond. This helps the land resist both droughts and floods. (Our patient was just waking up from sedation as we wanted to take complete x-rays and perform a physical exam to make sure he is healthy).
